Asian Pacific Alliance of New YorkThe Asian Pacific Alliance of New York (APANY) is a social, cultural and friendship, non-profit organization for all Asians/Pacific Islanders (APIs), and their non-API friends. It's goal is to provide fun activities and a safe haven for friendly interaction and support among all Asians and Pacific Islanders with alternative lifestyle, as well as their non-Asians friends. It was founded in 1996.
Although mainly male, membership and all APA-NY events are open to everyone, Asians and non-Asians, members or non-members. However, APANY members receive discounts at all APA-NY events and its bi-monthly publication "Singkil," which lists APA-NY Calendar of Events, Other Events from Area Groups, Global News, Arts & Entertainment, Showbuzz, Journal, and lots of photos from APA-NY events. "Singkil" is the only Asian Pacific publication from a social group - and one with the complete series - that's included in the gay & lesbian archives of Burritt Library at Central Connecticut State Library.
APANY members also have the honor of being a part of a worthwhile, prestigious, and culturally- and friendship-focused social organization. APANY is not officially affiliated with any national or international umbrella group. Membership dues are used to defray APANY's operation expenses such as publications, mailing, and fees (e.g., event facilities, Pride parade). The existence of such groups like APANY help improve the quality of life for the gay Asians and Pacific Islanders in the community and those of their non-Asian friends.
